Sneak Peek at the Latest on Gettysburg from the History Channel

Greetings Cosmic Americans!

This might be worth a look - Gettysburg, produced by Tony and Ridley Scott will premiere on Memorial Day. I will be sure to post my review. For now, let's just say that it looks gritty. Tomorrow I will talk more about this - but I think gritty is good.

Enjoy the rest of your Sunday!

Peace,

Keith

  1. Every time I see the promo for this I think about you. Because you're a Civil War historian, not because I'm attracted to you. No offense... I do look forward to your thoughts on this. It does look gritty but coming from Tony and Ridley Scott, that's not surprising. They've directed some very good action adventure movies.

  3. Gritty it may very well be, but historically accurate remains to be seen. These days it's hard for me to work up enthusiasm for any History Channel production given their downward slide into Ice Road Truckers, Pawn Wars and the like. And Ridley Scott demonstrated his lack of concern for authenticity in "Gladiator." The trailer for "Gettysburg" does not show me that the filmmakers did any kind of intensive research into the Civil War era; the costumes look like party store discount bin stuff, the makeup artists went overboard with the muttonchop whiskers, and somewhere on the Gettysburg battlefield there apparently exists a high wall that Union troops jumped over. Documentarians who purport to give us the true story should make a better effort at researching their subject.

  4. Oh, what a joy it would be to have the never-before achieved marriage of a first class Civil War documentary with a modern high-production value Hollywood movie. It's unlikely in this instance, but we can always hope.
